Gum Grafting/Root Coverage
Gum recession can be the result of several factors including:
Overly aggressively brushing
Brushing with an incorrectly designed toothbrush
Mobility of teeth
Grinding/clenching of teeth
Periodontal disease or other systemic health conditions.
Gum recession exposes the tooth root surface which may cause sensitivity, pain, unaesthetic appearance, mobility, and future gum recession.
As the problem is multifactorial, we recommend scheduling an appointment with Dr. Matthew Silverstein to identify the cause or causes of your recession and discuss treatment options. You may be a candidate for soft tissue grafting to cover exposed roots and restore your beautiful smile.
Dr. Silverstein has extensive experience with a variety of gum grafting techniques, including traditional gum grafting, periodontal tunneling technique, AlloDerm® Regenerative Tissue Matrix grafting, and several surgical techniques. By evaluating your condition, a minimally invasive treatment plan can be developed specifically to address your unique needs and concerns.
Cases Completed by Dr. Matthew Silverstein
Case Example #1
A woman presented with tooth sensitivity due to a combination of brushing too aggressively and with an incorrect toothbrush. A minimally invasive periodontal tunneling technique was used to cover her exposed tooth roots and her sensitivity was gone.
Case Example #2
A young man present with gum recession on multiple teeth with concerns about his appearance and sensitive teeth. Gum grafting was completed using Alloderm® RTM, that eliminated the need to obtain gum from the roof of the mouth.
Case Example #3
A man was referred due to his gums by his dental implants being inflamed and hard to keep clean. A gum graft improved the area significant as bleeding stopped and the patient could better maintain his dental implants.
